Ava Partridge
Co-Editor-In-Chief
Ava Partridge is a fourth-year, pursuing a joint BA/MA degree in political science. Outside of her role as co-editor-in-chief of The Gate, Ava is the co-chair of the Institute of Politics’ Student Advisory Board and is a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. Ava is interested in pursuing a career in political communications, campaigning, and advocacy. She’s from Washington, DC, and in her free time she enjoys strength training, thrifting, and listening to podcasts about movies and politics.

Gabriel Landrein
Co-Editor-In-Chief
Gabriel Landrein is a third-year at the University of Chicago majoring in political science. Outside of The Gate, Gabriel was the president of Alper House and served as a Fellows Ambassador for David Axelrod at the IOP in Autumn 2024. Past professional experience includes being a Government Affairs & Policy Intern at the Bitcoin Policy Institute, as well as a Public Diplomacy Intern at the Swiss Consulate General in Chicago. Gabriel is interested in a career in international relations, geopolitics, and security. Originally from New York and Barcelona, he enjoys watching soccer, exploring new restaurants, and reading a good novel.

Elliot Sher
Co-Managing Editor
Elliot Sher is a fourth-year majoring in Sociology and Law, Letters, and Society. Coming from the D.C. area and interested in national politics, he started at The Gate in the fall of his first year as a Junior Writer for the U.S. Section. Now as co-managing editor, he manages the Senior Writers Program and is a senior leader at The Gate. Beyond The Gate, he works as a research assistant studying political corruption and conspiracy theories in the U.S. and, in his free time, loves to practice Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Eva Herrick
Co-Managing Editor
Eva Herrick is a third year in the college majoring in Public Policy and Sociology, with a focus on urban transportation and infrastructure policy. In addition to The Gate, she is the President of Tap That!, UChicago’s tap dance group, and a member of UC Dancers, a contemporary and jazz dance company. Originally from New York City, Eva loves to explore the city in her free time.

Ally Alvarez
U.S. Editor
Ally Alvarez is a fourth-year majoring in Law, Letters, and Society and minoring in History. Previously a staff writer for the U.S and World sections, Ally is now serving on the board as the U.S Section Editor. She has a special interest in reporting on issues of national and cyber security policy. Outside of the IOP, Ally is a member of Women in Law and is the Director of Primary Recruitment for her sorority, Delta Gamma. In her free time, Ally enjoys cooking, running, exploring downtown Chicago, and spending time with her dog, Kenny.

Gina Montagna
World Editor
Gina Montagna is a fourth year double majoring in Political Science and Creative Writing, with a focus in non-fiction. Outside of The Gate, Gina is involved in other activites at the Institute of Politics as a member of the Student Advisory Board, Fellows Ambassador, and Career Development Ambassador. She recently worked with ABC News at the 2024 Democratic National Convention as a News & Production and Intern. This past summer, Gina worked with NPR’s WBEZ Chicago as their Reset Daily Talk Show Intern. Gina is interested in pursuing journalism long-term, with a special focus on U.S. presidential politics. Originally from Dallas, Gina enjoys reading and writing as well as long walks.

Aparna Viswanathan
Chicago Editor
Aparna Viswanathan is a second-year majoring in Public Policy and Human Rights. Outside of The Gate, she is involved with Bridge, a civic engagement group focused on voter education for incarcerated people, writes for the Undergraduate Law Magazine, and dances with the South Asian Students Association. She is from the Washington, DC area, and in her free time, she enjoy exploring museums, baking, and hiking.

Noah Sher
University Editor
Noah Sher is a second-year majoring in Sociology and History. Starting at The Gate in the fall of his first year as a Junior Reporter and focusing on national politics, Noah is excited to serve as the University Section Editor. As an Editor, he is looking forward to helping expand the section and encourage new writers to focus on developing stories within the University. Outside of the Gate, Noah enjoys attending IOP Speaker Series, along with practicing Muay Thai, top rope, and bouldering.

Chase Teichholz
Opinion Editor
Chase Teichholz is a second-year majoring in History. Previously a Senior Columnist, Chase is excited to serve as the Opinions Editor this year. Outside of The Gate, he is involved in several comedy organizations on campus, serving as a Copy Editor for UChicago’s satire publication, The Shady Dealer. As a first-year, Chase was a Research and Policy Intern through the IOP at Reform for Illinois, a good government group. A native New Yorker, Chase is an avid New York Mets fan and enjoys sports in all its forms as well as listening to classic rock.

Evan Spear
Culture Editor
Evan Spear is a fourth-year majoring in History and Political Science. He started at The Gate in the fall of his first year and has been Culture section editor since September 2023. In his free time, Evan enjoys playing golf, running, and reading.

Emily Price
Interviews Editor
Emily Price is a second-year studying Economics and Political Science. She fell in love with journalism thanks to The Gate during her first year, and later became a Senior Reporter for The Gate, a Staff Writer for the NYC Daily Post, and the co-Editor-in-Chief of The Donk. In her free time, she loves to play violin for the University Symphony Orchestra, write and produce music, and explore the outdoors.

Ovia Sundar
Social Media and Print Edition Manager
Ovia Sundar is a second-year majoring in Political Science and Economics. She has been a staff writer for The Gate since Fall 2024, and is excited to be able to help expand the reach of the publication this year as a senior writer and social media manager. In addition to The Gate, she is involved in the Chicago Debate Society, is a classroom assistant through the Neighborhood Schools Program, and also writes for the Undergraduate Law Magazine on campus.
